The Handwriting On The Wall
Part II
What does it take to for you to acknowledge God? What has to happen that will make you recognize just who God is? Ask yourself who is He in my life? What does His presence mean to me? Is he real in my life? We used to sing Jesus is Real, Real. Jesus is real to me. Oh yes, He gives me the victory. So many people doubt Him, I can't live without Him. That is why I love Him so; He's so real to me. Nebuchadnezzar had to experience the glory and the wrath of God. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord!
Nebuchadnezzar had put the people of Jerusalem in captivity. He broke down their walls and destroyed the city. He even destroyed the Holy Temple of God. He brought back to Babylon the cream of the crop amongst the Israelites to be used for his service. He took the holy goblets and fixtures out of the temple. He had no regards to their meaning, their value or their worth.
- In II Chronicles 4 God gave Solomon specific instructions on how to build the temple and what was to be placed in it.
- Pots, the shovels and flesh hooks were made of bright brass - so heavy and so many that they could not be numbered.
- The candlesticks, the lamps and the censers were made of not only gold, but pure gold.
- Neither the design nor the fixtures were taken lightly.
- They were Holy unto God!
Belshazzar, actually Neb's grandson and successor, decided at one of his parties that he would use those very vessels that had been taken from the Holy Temple in Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar. He used God's goods for his selfish, indulgent purposes. His stature had gone to his head!
When we use our gifts and our talents for any purpose other than lifting up the Name of God we become Belshazzars. Our gifts are given to us for the purpose of building God's kingdom. Gifts and callings are without repentance, it is strictly up to you how you use your gift. God has blessed all of us with gifts. The drug dealer, whether he sees it or not, has the ability to add, divide, multiply and subtract. The prostitute has an uncanny ability to persuade. These are all gifts from God and should be used for His purpose!
