GOD IS A KEEPER
From Child to Caregiver
My mother was diagnosed with dementia in October 2002. Our initial response was denial; a big bowl of denial. We didn't want it and refused to believe it. After all, who's going to bake the German Chocolate Cake? We needed her. Now the person who was taking care of us was going to need us to take care of her. Why God, why?
There is no definitive answer as to why God allows some things to happen to us. It is in His providence and things are done according to His will either divine or permissive. Our job is to trust Him. With every ounce of my being I trust God. When I pray He answers. If I'm lost, He finds me. If I'm hurt He comforts me. When I call Him, he comes. If I have a need, He fulfills it. God is a Keeper!
When we finally came out of our denial, we had decisions to make. My father worked and so did my siblings (me included). Though my father was 74 at the time, he was still working to help pay off some acquired debt. He felt that he had to continue to work. None of us was in the position to quit our jobs, so what do we do? Daddy could not handle her and he refused to move away from Shreveport. This was their home and their livelihood. He insisted on staying.
SO, HOW DO YOU HANDLE UNEXPECTED CALAMITIES SUCH AS THIS?
1. FIRST THING: TRUST GOD - Don't Blame God Instead Trust Him
2. PREPARE FOR THE INEVITABLE
3. ASSESS THE SITUATION AND AVAILABLE RESOURCES
FINALLY #4: WHEN CALAMITIES COME KNOW TO PRAY!
