Favor ministries was birthed from a sincere heart to help God’s people. It was stemmed from an incident of inability to help a needed family which prompted a vow to God by the founder, Elder Gladys K White. When the situation left a constant void in her spirit, she made her request known unto God. Elder White promised that if He would grant her the opportunity to help His people she would never renege on that promise. When God gives a vision, he also makes provision.
In 2001 the first conference was scheduled in July: “A Sacrifice of Praise.” Eight ladies and two men worked diligently on this project. It was held at the Abby Berg Senior Citizen building with attendance of about 80 people. Tickets were sold for $20 which included registration and lunch. The function yielded a profit of about $800. Consequently, the bank account was established.
The very first FAVOR recipient needed a telephone bill paid. The client had recently lost her job and was in pursuit of employment, but she had no phone to receive any call-backs for interviews. FAVOR paid the bill on a Thursday. The recipient called back the following Tuesday to thank us and to inform us that she received a call and got a job! What a blessing.
The charter members along with Elder White got together and established guide lines of who could be helped, how often and how much. An application form was created. Our target group would be the elderly during summer months and people who had received disconnect notices on their utilities. Utility bills were our initial focus, but we were not limited to just utilities. We have helped with rent payments, funerals, household emergencies, etc. Currently in our meager 7 years of existence we have helped over 75 families in the Mobile and Baldwin County communities. To God be the Glory for what He has done!
Presently all of our funds are donations from fund raisers or just generous people of God. We thank Him for the Vision and for the Provision!
